Pulse Laser Clinic - Soprano ICE Laser - Q&A

Early this month Pulse Laser Clinic joined us and to say we were pleased to have the beautiful clinic on our site would be an understatement. The clinic is nestled in the heart of Mayfair and sitting within the 58 South Molton Street Wellbeing Centre. The clinic prides themselves on excellent customer service and providing laser treatments with the best, most effective machine on the market.

We were bursting to know more about the clinic and the lovely clinic director, Maria, was happy to oblige…

Maria, tell us a bit more about Pulse Clinic, what makes you unique?

Pulse Laser Clinic has been open for 6 years and is owned by myself and my sister, Dr. Christina Philippeos. Together we wanted to create a boutique laser clinic that has a strong client focus where our client’s results are our top priority. Clients come to us because they know we are experts in laser hair removal treatments; this is the only treatment we do.

We perform our treatments using one of the best and latest laser machines on the market, the Soprano ICE laser, which has won many awards. Unlike other machines that expose the hair follicle to a single high energy pulse, potentially causing trauma to the skin with a high melanin count as well as discomfort, our machine gradually heats the skin until the required heat energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This makes it a safe and comfortable laser hair removal option for darker skin types.

As the owner of the clinic and also one of the therapists, I am very involved in the client’s journey from the start to the end of their course of treatments with us. I know all of them by name, and most of them have my mobile number and they WhatsApp, text or call me any time of the day for appointments. I have that kind of informal relationship with all of them and they like the fact that booking and discussing appointments is easy, convenient and they are always looked after. We build strong relationships with all of our clients. We do minimal marketing and our success if purely down to word of mouth referrals from happy clients.

We are based within a luxurious well-being centre on South Molton Street in trendy Mayfair. Clients can help themselves to fresh green apples, an array of herbal teas and may even get a glimpse of a celebrity or two.

What can our readers expect from a visit to your boutique clinic?

From the moment you step into our clinic you can expect exceptional care in a warm and relaxing environment. We invite all of our prospective clients to have an initial consultation with myself or one of my experienced aestheticians at no charge. During the consultation we will assess your hair type and skin tone and discuss a possible treatment plan that is right for you. We are a small team, which allows nearly all of our clients to be treated by the same therapist at each of theirs visits. As a result, your experience is much more personal, and your treatment history is always taken into account to ensure the very best results are achieved. Together we have over 24 years of experience performing laser hair removal treatments and we provide the highest standard of care in an atmosphere that is clean, professional, relaxed and friendly.

You will leave our clinic not only having had an amazing treatment but also with that personal touch that makes all the difference.

Why would you recommend Laser hair removal over more traditional hair removal methods?

I always tell my clients that having a course of laser hair removal treatments is the best investment you are ever going to make.

Instead of shaving, which is not permanent and can cause skin irritation and razor burn, laser drastically reduces the density and thickness of the hair making it the only long-term solution to unwanted hair. If you think about how much time, energy and money you spend shaving or waxing over the course of your lifetime, it makes sense to invest in a course of laser treatments. Most clients wish they had started laser hair removal earlier in their life, it really is life changing.

Waxing is very traumatic for the skin and can cause nasty ingrown hairs, not to mention the fact that you have to leave the hair to grow really long before having a wax, which is never a good look. Laser is the only permanent treatment for ingrown hairs. We are also the only clinic in the UK to stock Prince Reigns Ingrown Hair Serum, an extraordinary shaving serum that our clients swear by. Together with a course of laser treatments and this miracle serum, ingrown hairs will be a thing of the past.

How many sessions do you recommend?pr

For someone who has never had any laser hair removal treatment before, we recommend a minimum of 6 sessions at 6-8-week intervals. The laser will only treat hair in its Anagen (“growth”) phase and approximately 20% of the hair in any particular area will be at this phase at any time. At each session, different hairs are targeted which are at this stage of their life cycle and clients can expect to see approximately 20% reduction in hair after each session. Most of our clients will opt for 6 to 8 treatments per area, whilst certain parts of the body like face or extended bikini could need more as the hair in these areas is very hormonally driven.

Who can be treated?

The Soprano ICE Laser treatments are suitable for both men and women with any skin type including skin that is dark or tanned.

What's the best way to prepare before a laser hair removal session?

To ensure safety and efficiency of the treatment, we ask our clients to shave the area to be treated 12-24 hours before their appointment time and not to put on any creams, deodorants or oil onto the skin.

It is also important to avoid any other forms of hair removal, apart from shaving, such as waxing, threading or hair removal creams, at least 6 weeks before having a laser hair removal treatment and throughout the course of treatments, and not to apply any fake tan or visit the sunbed/have sun exposure at least 2 weeks before a treatment as this can compromise the results.

Likewise, what aftercare tips do you suggest?

The great thing about this treatment is it has no downtime. Many of our clients come for a treatment during their lunch break and return to work immediately after. You may experience mild redness or sensitivity after the treatment, this is not long lasting and usually subsides within a couple of hours or even less. We recommend using Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin and to avoid rigorous exercise and heat such as hot baths or showers, saunas, and steam rooms which can aggravate the skin. Any areas treated that will be exposed to sunlight should be protected with a SPF 30-50 sunscreen. My team and I are available around the clock to provide advice and support to our clients even after their final session is complete.
