Rocking around the Christmas tree...

With back to back meetings all day, and making my way to another one, my sister phoned. “Mel, would you like to be my date for the Wasps rugby Christmas party tomorrow?” … Umm let me think. I am a regular face on freezing Sunday mornings, cheering on my nephews team, so why not? Count me in!

It’s black tie with a hint of Christmas. Now when I think of Christmas, I think sparkles!! Well in fact when I think of anything, I think of sparkles.

Panic sets in! I have meetings until this evening and then tomorrow until the afternoon, but I need my hair done, nails, tan, outfit. I have shoes so that’s ok! I need a facial and make up! It’s fine! I will do a DIY Christmas make over!

Well at 7.15pm I made a dash to Westfield. It’s party season, dresses are everywhere, I will be here 20 minutes max… Ha! Who was I kidding? 8 different changing rooms & 11 dresses down.. Why can’t I be one of those women with a perfect body that can buy the first dress they see!

I wandered around Debenhams like a sad child, until I spotted it… black, sparkly, below the knee, perfect! Yay! It fits like a glove and complements my figure perfectly. I’ll take it! Now to go home and remove the leg fuzz in preparation for my fake tan tomorrow.

The next day at 3.30pm I step out of my meeting that went on longer than expected and I have to go from corporate to dazzling in least than 3 hours – No pressure!

Shower, exfoliate and, to give my hair the wow factor, Redken Deep Attraction Mask worked a treat leaving my hair like silk. I forgot to buy a skin mask but much to my delight GlossyBox had arrived. Now for anyone who doesn’t know what Glossybox is, it’s a little box of joy that arrives every month filled with beauty products in a beautiful decorative box for less than £15 per month with delivery. I love it and lucky for me one of the many products was a Starskin mask. I had it on while I did my trusty Fake Bake 5 minute mousse and my face was perfect! Like I had just had facial.

As it was a special occasion, I decided to contour my make up by watching an easy YouTube tutorial. One tip I must give is to BLEND! I didn’t and looked like a messy clown! My sister handed me one of her Beauty Blenders, “this will fix your face Mel”, and hey presto it worked and is now on my 'to buy' list.

5.45pm, I was forgetting something? MY NAILS!! I am a self-confessed addict of China Glaze. All of their colours are amazing and they have such a wide range, but which one to pick out of my huge collection? “Coal Hands Warm Heart” will go perfectly with my outfit. I quickly put on the Orange cuticle oil, which is one of my top nailcare products. I applied the nail colour, finished with the Fast Forward top coat that dries in 60 seconds. I am finally ready to go to the party!

The party was in the Double Tree by Hilton in Ealing, London which was absolutely lovely! The staff were so polite and nothing was too much trouble. All the guests looked gorgeous and after speaking to one of my friends, who has the perfect body, she said that she couldn’t find a dress either! Just shows that most women are the same, regardless of their body shape.

We sat down to eat and I quickly realised that I hadn’t eaten all day. Hopefully no one noticed that I cleared my plate first – oops! But it was so delicious!

The party continued long into the night and the Wasps most definitely know how to party!

Sunday morning and I’m back on the rugby field cheering on my nephew. Sadly the team didn’t win, but what did win was my DIY make over.

Just goes to show that with all the amazing products out there, you don’t always have to go to the salon… But it is nice to have somebody else doing it for you!!
